Nara Gevorkian, is a working mother of two, who had originally migrated from the city of Yerevan, Armenia. Like my mother, Genrik, my father, had originally come from Yerevan as well. On the other hand, my older brother and I had been conceived in the cold weathers of Vladivostok, Russia, and moved to the United States at the ages of four and nine. Although we are one family, with the same blood type, we all have different backgrounds and diverse origins.
My father, Genrik, was born in Yerevan, Armenia in the year of 1955. As soon as he had finished school at the age of 17, he attended a university in Leningrad Russia. Not too long after, at the age of 18, he had joined the Navy, which he had stayed for 20 years and retired as a Navy Captain. At the age of 28, my dad had flown to Armenia for his friend’s wedding, in which he then met my mother. My mother was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1963. She had met my dad at the age of 22. At her 23rd year, she had moved in with her newlywed, in Vladivostok, Russia. Nara had acquired many jobs and played a big role in keeping the house from falling apart. She had so much desire to take care every single one of us, I sometimes would get frustrated and agitated from being too pampered. After many romantic nights, perhaps with lit candles and top of the class wine, my mother and father had their first son, Eznik, in the year of 1985. Approximately a year later, my mom gave birth to her second child, Arzuman. Unfortunately, Arzuman had passed away at an early age, due to some kind of disease. With the hardship set aside, and a couple of year later, on 1991, a little hooligan with the name of George was conceived. Eznik, my older brother, played an important role in my family, he is one of my biggest if not the biggest, guides, and role models I had encountered.
Ever since I can remember, my mother and father had talked about the American dream, and American democracy. With America on their minds, the Gevorkians had moved to Glendale, California thanks to my aunt’s visa, at the year of 1996. In the outcome of our arrival to the United States, we have learned to adapt to the new lifestyles. My mother is currently employed and still teaching to her two sons from right and wrong. My father, an electrician, is currently doing the same, and teaches his kids, the morals of life. My brother Eznik, is now in the military and attending college. He still plays a humongous role in my life. As for me, I am still in high school, and enjoying life as it comes. Throughout the good and bad times, we now have a greater amount of options to choose from, and that is the beauty of living in the United States of America.
