The United States is a nation where everyone comes to find a better life for themselves and their families, they want to find their American dream. My story is about how my family and I emigrated from Armenia to the United States of America.
My father was the first one in our family to come to America from Armenia, years later he brought us here, and now we live in what is called “the American dream”. My father came to United States in 1993 when I was only 3 years old. He came here to find a better job and to build his future. He worked very hard to support our family in Armenia. My father came here with a business visa. He opened his own business and started to develop his life. He was very smart, he started to make a lot of money alone before brining us to America because he wanted us to not have struggled like he did when he first came here. He also wanted us to have a better life here then we did in Armenia.
Years passed by; my father finally had our legal documents and he was ready for my mom, my two sisters and I to come to the United States. Our journey was a little different than my fathers. We first went to Russia before coming to the United States. My aunt and my cousins live in Russia so we stayed with them for 5 months before we actually came here. When it was already time to get in the plane to fly to America, I was very terrified because my life was just about to change.
On April 4th 1998, it was the day when my family’s lives changed forever. My mom and sisters were very nervous like I was. We knew that we were going to start our new lives here and build our home in a country where we did not know anything about. I was seven years old when I first stepped my foot in America. This was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. I was much scared to start school here because I did not know the language. I remember coming home from school and crying to my mother, telling her I want to go back to Armenia. After time passed by I started to adapt the new ways of things in this country. All in all, now I think that I can never go live in another country in my life. I am so used to things here, in the United States that I can not even imagine myself living anywhere but here. It’s true, when I came here I struggled a little, but now I think all that struggling was really worth everything. Everyday I thank god for having a great opportunity to live here. I have a great life, I go to school, I have a great future ahead of me, and I am lucky to have food on our table everyday. To kids who are young and are just coming to this country I hope that they can try to make the best out of their life. This country is a very good opportunity for people to start their lives all over again, and actually enjoy it. Living life in the United States is by far the best thing that has ever happened to my family and I, and I would not change it for the world.
