My mom was born on June 13 in Zacatecas and was the only kid of 5 born there. The place is not bad to live in; they just want a better life for themselves like better jobs. They also wanted to raise a big family and they didn’t think Mexico would be a good place to do it.

My grandma loved her family but she knew it was best to go to the United States for her kids. They lived in a house but it wasn’t big enough for them to raise a family. My grandparents decided to move a little after she had my mom. My grandma was excited to move because she had never been outside of Mexico. She was concerned that they wouldn’t be able to get out because they still had a newborn baby. They had to think of lots of ways they could get out but safely so nothing bad would happen to either of them. They found out that they would be able to go in the trains instead of on top of them as tourists. The only people that left were my grandparents and my mom, but they did want to take other relatives with them. Some of my grandparent’s relatives were upset that they were leaving and didn’t chose to raise their kids there. Lots of them even thought they would never come back to visit and would think they were higher than the people in Mexico and forget where they came from.

My grandparents did not think it would be this easy to leave and start a new life somewhere else with out the help of loved ones. She even second thought herself if she was doing the right thing in leaving and feared something bad would happen as they go. My grandma couldn’t take a lot of things with her because they were going on a train so she mostly took a lot of things for my mom. As the train took off my grandma had the biggest smile in the world because she knew she was going to have a better life with her new family. They moved into a house in downtown L.A and planed to have another baby. My grandma found out she was going to have another baby and it was going to be a boy. As my grandma had 3 more kids, a boy and two more girls’ things started getting tough. My grandma was working at a school close by but it wasn’t enough for them to pay for the house and things for the kids. The kids even went to different schools and that made it hard to take them all at different places.

At this time my grandparents started thinking if this was going to work out or if they should move back to Zacatecas. My grandparents found an apartment a few blocks down from were they lived. Things started to shape up for all of them. As the kids were getting older they met their loved ones and got married and moved. One of my aunts got into USC and that made my grandparents so happy. My grandparents were so thankful for the way things started turning out, my grandma got two jobs and my grandpa one.

My mom was the only one that was born in Mexico but has not gone back there since she was a teenager. She has her green card but has never gone to become a citizen, but she is legal to be here. My mom has told me so many stories from what her parents told her about how life was in Mexico at those times to now. Now that I am older I go to Zacatecas as much as I can with my grandpa who goes every year to visit his parents.
